On 19 November 2021, I gave a lecture for the Lauterpacht Centre of International Law (Friday Lunchtime Lecture Series) on CEDAW and transformative judicial obligations, focusing on the rights of migrant domestic workers in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
I argue that under CEDAW, courts should not only recognize the vulnerabilities of migrant domestic workers when dealing with their abuse but also identify and critique the laws, policies, and practices enabling such abuse. This transformative judicial approach to worker protection goes beyond remedying individual cases of abuse by addressing their root causes and preventing future violations.
